YAFUOKU! DOME, Japan’s first multi-purpose stadium with a retractable roof YAFUOKU! DOME, Japan’s first retractable roof stadium, opened on April 2, 1993. Originally named “Fukuoka Dome,” was renamed FUKUOKA Yahoo! JAPAN DOME on February 25, 2005 due to naming rights.followed by another renaming to FUKUOKA YAFUOKU! DOME as of February 1 2013. The dome was designed with the ancient Roman Coliseum motif allowing optimal viewing for spectators and state of the art athletic ground. With a retractable roof the dome is an ideal venue for sporting events and concerts in any weather condition. While home to the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks franchise baseball team it has movable seats on both sides of the field which allow for a wide spectrum of sporting events to be held.
